WHAT IS A PROJECT?
A Project is team of individuals with a common goal whose effort creates a product, service, or process. Regardless of their size, projects can have common characteristics. By looking at the definition you can derive some of them.

Project Characteristics:

  • Every Project has a Customer
  • Projects are made of Team of Individuals (although projects can have only one team member)
  • The project team works towards a Common Goal
  • The goal of a project is to create a Production, Service or Process
  • A Project benefits the organization and it's team members (Value)
  • A project has a Final Deliverable
  • Deliverables are expected on a time table agreed by all team members
  • A project has a Budget and a Cost
WHAT IS A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT?
The answer to this question depends on who you ask. If you ask this question to the different players of the project you will get different answers. So, lets evaluated from the different Stakeholders point of view
 » CUSTOMER
  • All project CTQs have been met
  • Project was delivered on time and on budget
  • Customer understands how to use product, process or service
  • Customer is completely satisfy
 » PROJECT SPONSOR
  • All Customer criteria's have been met
  • Understands new product, process, or service implications to the environment
 » PROJECT TEAM
  • Team met all Customers and Project Sponsors critirias
  • All Action items and milestones of the project have been completed
  • Product/ Process/ Service has been successfully transition to Product/ Process/ Service owner
  • Product/ Process/ Service has been in production for at least 2 weeks with not problems (serious implication to the business)
